In order to view a test site on my work Windows XP PC, I had to modify the host file. So bascially when the computer is told to make a DNS lookup for a domain name, it checks the host file first--the host file tells it what IP address to go to, instead of having it make a DNS lookup (because the site is not viewable publicly. Does anyone know how to make the same adjustment in OSX? I tried searching but no luck...

    Thanks!

It's done in the netinfo manager application that's in utilities.

Under machines add a host name and ip and there you go.

Or you can do it the same way you do in Windows, except the file is /etc/hosts
