I have a movie of a friend working on a computer and I wanted to edit it so that I could add a movie playing on the computer screen that he's working on. Does anyone know if and how this could be done in iMovie (and what version if necessary, I have iMovie 4). If this can't be done in iMovie could you indicate what software can do this. Thanks a lot.

No one out there knows? How hard can this be? If you can do it in iDVD with multiple small windows playing short clips on the menu screen, why can't this be done in iMovie, or another similar software. Help please

Well, iMovie really wont get you anywhere since its not very good at (or any) compositing, but if you're a student and are willing to spend some $ on a really, really, and I mean really good app for video editing, I suggest you buy Final Cut Express, I think that students could buy it for like 100 bucks or something like that. Its really great things like layer videos on top of each other, Edit in HD, and add effects and tons more. Its not hard to use, and is totally worth the price IMHO.

As far as i'm aware and have seen, from my quite extensive experience, you're going to need final cut pro for that.

iDVD only does it for chapter menus & similar.

Express should do just fine ;)

But yeah, I think you're going to need Final Cut.

Thanks for getting back so fast. We have a copy of Final Cut in our lab, though I've never even looked at it. I guess I'll trudge through it on Monday and try to figure it out, hopefully it's straight forward enough. Thanks again
