Hi i just got a MBP a week ago and have calibrated the battery once. With bluetooth off, airport off, sound off, brightness one and only running itunes to arrange songs and playlists im getting only 220 min of batetry time. i went from 97% to like 87% in around 20 min. when i just browse the interent i only get around 2 hours of battery life, this cant be normal can it? do widgets take up alot of battery life because maybe i should just trun them all of ( i only have the default ones on) please note that to get rid of the whine issue i removed the file IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext (backed it up of course). is there something im doing wrong to get such low battery life? help!

Try calibrating it again. By calibrating, I mean FULLY discharge the battery, until the system sleeps itself. Then, charge it up all the way, and leave it plugged in, even when the light on the magsafe stays green. Leave it on the green light for a couple of hours, then see how your battery life is.

Totally normal. Sadly. Plus, going from 97 to 87 percent in 20 min is going to yield you 3.3 hours of battery life. Not too bad compared to others. ;)

Calibration on the late 15" PowerBooks and the new MBPs is slightly different. You're supposed to fully charge the battery and leave the mains connected for at least 2 hours to let it "settle".

Then fully discharge the battery as usual.

Once discharged you should leve it for 5 hours or more before charging again.

Best to time it so that the battery runs out before you go to bed.

I believe removal of the .kext to fix the whine causes the battery life to drop also. So if battery life is more important to you than the whine, you can put it back.
