I was under the impression iChat allowed you to use a mic

skype and gizmo project both do. same with teamspeak and ventrilo, and some others.

I'm hoping for advanced features in the upcoming update to Yahoo Messenger :)

I got a jabber account from ijabber dot com, then set up an account in iChat, plugged in the iSight and I had text, voice, and video - all free!

Just so you know, the vast majority of instant messaging protocols and software are free. Jabber works too, same with gtalk (not compatible with iChat), as jabber just basically piggybacks on the features from iChat.
