We are looking at using the mini mac server for our home server however we have some questions on its functionality.

1. Does the server allow multiple users (multiple Apple ID's) using ipad or iphone to access their itunes library to play music (not at the same time) from the mini mac?

2. Is it possible to store all audio data on an external (mass storage) device and still have access the play music via itunes and with different users from both their mobile devices and desktop systems?

Cheers

RE: quick answers...

Hi Aussie2,

1. yes (but each user must login to the mac mini server, start iTunes, and turn on Home Sharing with his/her AppleID, and in the Sharing tab of the iTunes Preferences check the "Share my library on my local network" and make whatever sharing choices the user wishes). In iTunes on the client (iPad, MBP, laptop), you may then select the appropriate Shared iTunes Library, and play anything that the user allows, either their entire library or selected playlists with or without password.

2. yes (same comment as 1.)

Good luck and have fun,
Switon

P.S. Obviously, you can't let the mac mini server go to sleep, as if it does then the Shared iTunes Libraries disappear.
