Okay, so I had my G5 and 20" Cinema Display (the new one) on a late 1800's dresser with the mirror on top. Well... The mirror fell onto the G5, breaking the Bluetooth and AirPort dongles, and then the mirror hit the cinema display, which landed on my iSight. I cleaned up the whole mess, and the Cinema Display only had a small gash in the screen that was nearly invisible when viewing the screen from dead on. So I moved my setup into a safer position, and powered everything back on and now the Cinema Display will not turn on at all. I saw a bright flash from behind the screen, and then nothing. so I am pretty sure it is dead, and getting it fixed would be far too expensive. I have about three months before I really need to get a new monitor, and I would like some buying advice.

Unlike when I purchased my Cinema Display, I only have $600 to spend, not $1200.

So here are some options I am looking at...

A refurbished 20" Cinema Display from Apple $600

a used 23" Cinema Display (ADC) off Ebay ~$600

a used 20" Cinema Display (ADC) off Ebay ~$450

the Dell 2007WFP when it arrives. Est $600

-I would look at the Dell 2005fpw, however, with the 2007WFP on the way, I would rather go with the better model since I would be buying a Dell. I am also reconsidering Apple Displays based on the fact that I have enjoyed my 20" for the past two years, and it has been a solid performer.

So if anyone has any input in regards to the above options, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

get one of THESE for only $423! You might even be able to find it cheaper elsewhere too. 2005fpw has same EXACT LCD panel as 20" ACD. I've seen em' go for for $400! 2007fpw MAY be nicer looking and a little brighter, but I see a better deal (and a great LCD) in the 2005.

I agree. These Dells use the same panels as their Apple counterparts, however the backlight is different. The Apple Cinema Display does have a better backlight, but hardly noticeable for hundreds of dollars more.

I think if you pay 50-100% more for an Apple display over a Dell simply due to aesthetics, you're a fool, or you're stank rich. It has been mentioned above already, but I'll say it again......... Dell and Apple generally use the same LCD panels. There really aren't that many LCD makers anyway, only several of them, so it's not like Apple's are incredibly great while the Dell's are crap.
