Alright ladies and gentlemen...riddle me this crazy idea...

I have an idea on what the "iPhone" will bring to us and I wanted to type my thoughts out and see what others had to say about my thought.

We all know and love how Apple thinks outside of the box, or to put it into other words, they "Think Different."

Well my thoughts on the iPhone is this: They will make an affordable iPhone (300... now stay with me) and with it will include a 2 - 4 GB flash drive inside (for the iPod aspect, address book, mail, pictures). Along with the flash drive, Apple will release "iChat Mobile." This will be an IM service on your phone and like iChat AV it will offer Audio conferencing.

The thing is, I think when you sign onto iChat Mobile, your friends/family will see your name sign onto their iChat buddy list. Along with your name it will offer a green cell phone "stamp" (think the telephone/ camera stamp)

From there you can have an audio chat with anybody that has iChat or an iPhone...

Now I'm sure you're thinking to yourself...Steve, since Apple has only like 5% of the computer market and iChat is a Mac only app how could this product sell?

My answer to that is this...Apple releases a Windows version to iChat and anyone who has a microphone can take advantage of the software.

Now I'm not even gonna flirt with the idea that Apple will make their own phone service along with it ... maybe it will be a virtually unlocked phone so whatever provider you have, your iPhone will work along with it. (that one might be the discussion maker)

So what do you all think? Could this be possible at all or is this just a mere fairytale/nightmare?

I appreciate any creative thinking, and while I do see this as a possibility, the thing I DON'T see happening is Apple making anything 'unlocked'. What else do they make so free to 3rd. party software? Anyway, I personally don't like talking on the phone, and would much rather type due to not having to be so dedicated to ever online conversation. keeps it more informal. just my .02

Yeah I pulled that last thought out of my butt while I was talking. I think this might be a possibility to a new iPod line rather than a phone line. It would be marketed as an iPod with phone functions.

I like the iChat idea (even though it is unlikely). I doubt Apple would have their own phone service, but probably offer it through a large carrier such as Cingular or Verizon.

As for the mobile iChat subscription, I would hope Apple would include it with .mac (I don't think it could be completely free).

I think that the iChat app is POSSIBLE, however, i do not think that it will happen. I think that Apple will never release iChat for Windoze because that would not sell Apple computers. If they wanted to sell computers, it would have an offer like £100 off it if you buy a mac.

While I also don't think it wouldn't happen I don't know if you're reason is entirely right. Apple did develop iTunes for Windows and the only reason was to sell more iPods. By doing this they believed it would end up selling more Macs in the long run which it looks like it's doing. If we were talking about iLife or anything else I could see your point but it is just an AIM client. It would be required for people on Windows to use in order to connect to people using his iPhone. I actually thought we would have seen iChat on Windows by now in order to promote the video conferencing abilities of it but my guess is Apple wants to leave it on OS X which isn't that bad of an idea.

How could they not in some way charge for it? Look at all of the other mobile IM apps out there; they all have a monthly fee. Apple will have to charge you in one way or another.

There is no way Apple would/could create their own cell network, it would be far to expensive and to hard to compete with the larger companies.

I like the concept, but I think they'd hand it over to verizon and charge this ridiculous price. I don't know how they'd attract new customers (non-apple enthusiasts like ourselves) with a brand new phone company. Think of the poor reception the first couple of years.. Just not worth it for them. Hopefully, I'm wrong and they unlock it.

The iChat deal sounds cool, similar to Cingular's new "push button" deal, whereas Apple's would include video chatting.

AIM Triton has support for plug-ins. All apple needs to do is release a plug in for Triton.

I'm thinking it could be like the new Skype Wi-Fi phone

    http://us.accessories.skype.com/direct/skypeusa/itemdetl.jsp?prod=3059

True it would be a hassel to only be able to make calls when you have a Wi-Fi signal but I believe this way Apple could make it so the calls are free and like I said before, this would be an iPod with phone functions rather than a Phone with iPod capabilities.

That might be a nice extra feature, but without capability with a traditional cell network, it would sell like a lead balloon.

I like the looks of it, especially the different flip style. I really like the touchscreen...who knows, but if I'm write let me be the first to say..."I told you so."

yeah i remember that concept. good selection of song (chosen by zack graff on garden state's soundtrack..) imo it'd be too expensive for a full touch screen phone to video. you're looking at a $700+ flash-based ipod.
