My Mac Mini died last night apparently...

I had gone to bed and when I woke up in the morning to get on the computer it was frozen. I noted the clocked showed 10:23PM, after I had gone to bed, so something apparently happened while I was asleep.

When I try to boot it, it shows a blank grey screen which eventually goes to the finder folder question mark flashing back and forth. It was working fine last night...

I've tried unplugging everything but the monitor, mouse and keyboard and it still doesn't work. I've tried the steps listed on Apple.com about it too, and it didn't help.

Is there anything I can try at home before having to take it into the Apple Store?

Or should I just try to boot it from the CD and re-install OS X?

South of the border
can you boot it from the cd?
if so, run disk utility and repair the drive as a first check.
Also, run Startup disk and choose the internal hard drive to "bless" it
