Well all of my issues are recent occurrences except for one. I guess the oldest issue should go first. I was booted into Windows Vista and left my MBP on for an extended amount of time. Afterwards the fans continuously made grinding noises but it was only a Windows problem it seemed. But now the grinding noises carry over into OS X and its annoying me, yes I do have sound clips. Another issue is the whining logic board which I never sent in to get repaired. Just this past week I tried to calibrate my battery. The only issue is regardless of how many hours I wait it tries to start from where it left off (in this case a 12 hour wait) which results in OS X crashing. By crashing I mean its like a clean installed OS X but my apps and other media are still there. And I have to setup my things all over again. I've lost all of my bookmarks and some downloads. A few nights ago i tried to close my MBP lid so it would go to sleep but it wouldn't so I pressed the power button and it just turned off. Now when i turned it back on all my settings were lost, my dock was reset as well as other settings such as expose. In firefox I can't add bookmarks. I found apps i deleted long ago in my dock etc. and am at wits end. Right now iTunes is reconstructing my library is not the originial folder but rather the damaged one. Now I have to go through and delete repeated songs etc. Limewire had to be re-setup, Adium, Firefox, Safari and Neo Office (while I wait for my office disk to come in)etc. And now my computer is acting rather sluggish.

I have 1 GB of ram and Core Duo MBP

and Im pretty upset any help is appreciated my guess is failing hard drive and will have to go to applecare regardless of whats wrong(other issues).

Also is WPA 2 ok for the MBP?

also I now get beachballs for even simple actions.

I would back up all of your data and take it to Apple.
You may also need to do a complete erase and re-install of the OS and all your apps.

If you have problems with the fans/whining and possibly the drive i'd send or take it to Apple (backup first). Whatever they repair/replace i'd also re-install the OS etc. for peace of mind - some of your issues seem like software problems and some like hardware.
