I've been using the saddle brown leather case now for a few days, and I can't seem to get used to how slippy it is. I put on the black leather case I've been using since January, and it just feels way more grippy. The last thing I want to do is drop my phone because my case caused me to. People have been saying it gets more grippy over time. Does it get as grippy as last year's black leather case? Or will it still be slippy with dry hands no matter what? I need some peace of mind.

Very happy with the Saddle Brown leather case on my iPhone 6s!

Alright, here's my take on the "patina" or wear of mine after 14 days.
Decided to comment on it once my return period ended since I've decided to happily keep this one.

Time with case on: 13 days
Total times cleaned: 2
Total times conditioned: 2
Total length of each conditioning: 5 minutes (until dry)

Notes:

- I applied the Spigen magnetic plate (an accessory to their car mount) on day 2 and have never noticed any side-effects. I could have done this "patina period" without it, but I personally wanted to see if it affected the patina.

- I did not avoid cleaning my hands at all. If I had to guess, I'd say I washed my hands twice a day (once while showering and once after any particularly enjoyable bathroom visit, or a messy meal.)

- I used the case without cleaning it in any way for 8 days straight.
- On the 8th night, I removed the phone from the case, cleaned it with Apple Leather Cleaner (linked below - no, it's not that Apple) and then applied Apple Leather Conditioner in a thin but very complete layer. I allowed this to air dry, which took 5 minutes based on the thickness of the layer of conditioner I let sit on it.

- When I cleaned and conditioned the case, I did so with a clean, typical white cotton sock, not pressing too firmly, and in quarter-sized circular motions all over the back. I also applied the cleaner and conditioner around the edges, lightly scrubbing a bit around the volume and power button nubs.

- The night of day 9, I put my phone back in the case and went about using it like normal.

- Today (day 14) I cleaned and conditioned it the same way as above, now for the second time, but kept the phone in the case.

- Pictures were taken tonight, an hour after conditioning for the second time. I couldn't decide between posting pictures with or without the flash, so here are both sets.

I use Saphir products on my leather work shoes. Curious how their leather cleaner will work on my Saddle case. Will likely be trying out their Renomat followed by their Renovateur. Don't think there is a better leather cleaner and conditioner on the market.

Probably follow it up with some Saphir neutral polish, too.

do post pictures of it if possible! like a before and after, very curious on the effects of saphir products on it too.
although i think that the renomat might be a little too aggressive on the leather.

I'm thinking about giving this case another go. Last time it was way too slippery, but I dropped my 6s+ the other day and it has some scuffs on the top, back bottom, and back. So after a week of use, it shouldn't be as slippery right ?

Just ordered one to go with my gold 6, hope it looks as good in real life as it does in the pictures, will find out on the 14th.

Really wanted a space grey/black phone but got the gold at a really good price, but think i will like the gold just as much with the saddle brown case fitted. If not its back to space grey next year.

Ya the black leather one I have from last year feels way more grippy. Almost like a rubber feel which is awesome! Saddle brown is slippy I've had it about a week now and am curious to see how it wears...

Not sure yet. It should work good. I've discolored it a bit with general use, so I'd like to set it up as "almost new." The 'mat should take out much of the discoloration and get it almost back to new I hope.

We shall see!

Today, i bought a saddle brown leather case for my spacegray 6s. The color looks very nice and the backside of the case looks flawless, however there are 3 things i noticed, which do annoy me a bit.

- the buttons are very stiff/hard to press (my 5s leather case is much better in this regard)
- the bottom of the case does noticeable slope outwards (it looks like the case doesnt fit properly)
- there is a leather bump on the edge of the case

So, im not sure what to do. Just keep it or is it worth a try to get a replacement which fits better? Apparently the wider bottom fit of the 6s cases seems to be "normal", but i think it looks just weird.

Some pictures:

I had the same results with my Saddle Brown case (exchanged for the black).

Stiff buttons, but they seemed to be breaking in over time.

The bottom corners kind of like flare out a little. My black case does this too. My 2014 leather case also did this.

I had the saddle brown for my 6s plus, looks amazing, but didn't "break in" and give me the feel in-hand that I wanted. I ended up returning it and going to Best Buy and grabbing a couple leather cases designed for the 6 plus. I had a leather case for my 6, which looked great after a year and I loved how it felt. I do baby my cases though, swapping them for silicone when I'm at the gym and treating them with Apple (different Apple) leather products.

I bought the saddle brown when I saw it was released because it reminded me of my original 5S brown case.

I owned the old dark brown & the midnight blue on my iPhone 6 beforehand, this case did feel a lot stiffer & the leather felt off at first but after a few weeks it got just about perfect. I do agree the bottom is a bit more of a 'flare out' than the original but nothing too crazy.

I can see why they released new cases for the 6S though, I just got my 6S in yesterday and it is a much tighter fit than my 6 was in the saddle brown case. I personally didn't really notice the weight or thickness change but the case sure seemed to lol

The buttons definitely have to break in because they're too stiff, but other than that, very nice case

Wow Apple has the best customer service of all time

I bought a red leather case 12 months ago for $50 for my 6 Plus. It got all messed up, ripped, turned black. looked gross. I went today to exchange it, nervous since I didn't have a receipt. Right when I walk in and showed them the case the guy said follow me and took me to the cases. He said choose a color, I chose a new color and he took it out of the box and said "It's yours". Was in and out in less than a minute

I was speechless tbh

I got the new brown case, not the saddle brown. The quality is definitely a lot better than last years leather case. I think this will hold up well.

I wash my hands quite a few times a day and use lotion as well because I have dry skin. Is this bad for the saddle brown leather case? It still feels quite slippery after a week.

no it isn't. leather is similar to our skin, it requires nutrients in the form of leather cream/lotion to prevent it from drying up and eventually cracking. Even if your hand lotion rubs off onto the leather case, it'll be fine. The leather case would absorb the lotion and would age accordingly which is fine.

In other words, a leather being treated with leather lotion/cream would last longer than one without.

In your case, the lotion in question would be a hand lotion i presume...? Well... if its good enough for your hands, i'm sure no harm would be done to the leather case.

Thanks for the reply. I'm really concerned with how slippery it is. Every time I want to go back to my black leather case, I tell myself to be patient and it will get better with time.

I ordered some Apple brand leather cleaner and conditioner. Hopefully that will help with breaking this thing in.

One thing I learned in this thread is, everyone has a space grey iPhone.
Which is strange considering saddle brown doesn't really suit the space grey phones, it looks much better on the white fronted phones.
