So I redesigned my homepage yesterday, and I've been getting conflicting opinions on whether it's better or not. it's faster, more standards compliant, more focused on the content, works better across all browsers and platforms, etc. it's more of a technical update than anything, I think it's worth it, but I've had complaints that the old one looked better and was more in line with what the website should be. It's really an argument over appearance more than anything.

so what do you think? here are a couple pages from the site:

basically this is to solve a dispute between myself and a friend, so please post comments :p

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
I think that the new site design is much better, the graphics work looks more professional and has a tighter unity.

As a site visitor however, I find the content page to be too tall, especially that enormous 'K', and the image on the first page that leads you to a second page doesn't present any new information, it just adds a click and maybe a bit of confusion. Depending on your target audience you may want to revise these. I really like the look of the site, there may just be too much stuff that doesn't apply is all.

No doubt about it, the new one is much better. But I agree with stoid about the giant k. Not sure why it's there.

yeah I know, most of the pages are too tall, and for no reason, I'm still working on transitioning things over, I only started the new one about a day and a half ago. :p

I think the new one is better, but it's a little inconsistent. Are some of the pages not ready yet, or is the news page supposed to be full width and is the left border of the home page supposed to be cut at half height leaving a white space below?

Yep love the second one, looks very clean and very affective.

    The /k2/ was better...

...but both portfolio-pages was way too "high" for a (standard) 1024x768 screen... and as this is mainly done because of design (the 'k') I think it's quite unnecessary...

do you mean the second one as i the newer one or the second one form the post, meaning the old one?

and to gekko: yeah it's not completely done yet, and I think i'm tossing out the page with that white space, it's unnecessary, and the news page hasn't been moved to the new style yet, i was waiting til I got more opinions on the site first :)

New one is much better, the old one is odd-looking at the top, the new one makes everything easy to find.
