by no means am i going to be the usual sourpuss attacking the flag waving ness at all

    i think that's, well, it's ok

however, i think a more accurate, prouder portrayal would be of humanity altogether, or at least even americans. holding hands. helping each other. just being happy and loving.... i think that's a better meditation than a symbol of a government... and i know i know, it means more. but i think this goes beyond us, to everyone... and thus should be more worldwide...

Jello, I understand, but even though the attack was on the civilized world, the attack occured here. The flag is a symbol not of our government, but of our diversity and the power that is our country. Our pride. Our rallying call.

like i said, i hear you.... but i feel differently... for isntance, i just heard a woman on cnn talking about how even though there's been division since last year... "we are americans first"....

    blah.

    we are HUMANS first.

then americans... not the other way around

absolutely - but as a nation, 9/11 was something that had a profound effect on us at a more personal level. For us that day the world came second, but I don't think we ever lost track of our humanity. I'd like to think it made us even more aware of it.

Any who. All this talk some how reminded me of something that happened in the mid 80s - 1986, Hands Across America, where anywhere from 5-7 million people formed a human chain from NY to LA (with a few gaps in the dessert).

    Anyone here participate in it?

why would the world come second on a day that what the us as a country has done TO the world came back to haunt us...?

we haven't lost track of our humanity? maybe not in our own country, with other white people. but how about the middle easterners here in the country? how about now our blood lust for iraq??

hmmm. doesn't seem very humane to me
