I was wondering if MyBooks have something unique in them that make them specifically suited for iPhoto/tunes or is it just an external HDD that is marketing up the importance of saving those files? It's fine with me if it is the latter because it still looks cool, but just wanted to know if I should be measuring this againnst other external HDDs or if it was a unique item?

Nothing inparticular. Just an external hard drive in a decent case. It comes in 3 flavors essentials, premium and professional. It is just a nice little package and a decent price from most places.

I got one of these (with the Firewire connection) and I don't rate it as much as the Lacie Porche drives. It seems much slower to me.

But the MyBook does boot my PowerPC mac, so that's something.
