My wife is getting a iBook from santa:D, and my son is getting an eMac from santa:D so I decided to set up a wireless network in our home using an airport express base station. Then i decided we needed:rolleyes: some speakers hooked up to the Airport Express to take advantage of Air Tunes. Here is what I want to happen, please advise me if it is going to work like i think it will:eek: .

The Airport express base station hooked up to the DSL modem, and printer. (so far so good I hope) ONKYO Home Theater System 5.1 plugged in to the audio port...? and the Onkyo Unit hooked up to the TV ect. Allowing for surround sound for DVD's, videogames and whatnot.

Will this allow me to have World of Warcraft play through the surround sound:cool: or music from iTunes? and does anyone have any expierience with HTB's playing music. is the music going to sound bad through those type of speakers?

As XY14 already pointed out, the Airport Express will only pass iTunes audio to your receiver. I'm pretty sure that the eMac and the iBook don't have optical audio out, so you'll need to purchase a USB audio device with optical out to send ALL audio from the Mac to the receiver. Something like the M-Audio Transit would do what you need.

As for the quality of the sound on your Onkyo HTiB... This is one of the better choices in the <$500 segment. They are going to be good for movies and surround sound. You made a good choice because they will sound better than some of the other junk from big names in that price range.

Still, you would notice a distinct difference if you were to go with better speakers. The Onkyo speakers are a little small for good 2 channel music performance. Personally, I like these from SVS Sound. Of course, this 5.1 speaker bundle is $900. But for $900, they are probably among the best sounding speakers you can buy for up to $2000 or more. I have one of their subwoofers in my Home Theater and it is stunning for movies and music.

so...the imac, ibook, and emac will play itunes music through the speakers. None of them will play game music, or DVDs for example without some additional equipment, not ideal but not really a big deal music is certainly the important part for my family.

As far as the Onkyo choice i'm on a budget to get this done and for $299 it seemed like a great deal. I just wasnt sure about music quality.

oh and thanks for the help.
