    Hey all,

I currently have a PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz with 1Go of RAM and a 128Mo video card. I bought it with AppleCare in June 2004.

I've just started my career and got a brand new laptop for professional use. As a consequence, I was thinking of selling my PB (in perfect state, no scratch or anything like that, with one year left in the AppleCare plan) to get the new MacBook (which should be in Rev. B or C by now?).

I'm actually French and studied the past semester in the US to complete my Master degree. For professional reason, I'll be working in Atlanta for the month of August, and thought about buying my MacBook there. Moreover, if I use the educational discount, the price would go from 1950 euros (if I buy it in France), to 1330 euros in the US (both with the ed. discount). Even without it, it makes for a big difference!

Also, my gf would love to get an iPod Nano, thus I thought about giving it to her for a bday in September with the Nano special offer. However, it takes 6-8 weeks to receive the check and I'll have left the US already...

If you guys had some advice on what I should do or not do based on my situation, that'd be great. I won't need an other powerful laptop for personal use, I'll mostly use the MB for music, photos, movies and internet browsing. I'd still get the MacBook with the 2*512 of RAM and AppleCare plan.

Thanks for your help and advices

MacBooks are still considered Rev. A as they are still shipping with the same identical specs as when the first shipped. This does not mean that there have not been tweeks or manufacturing process updates, there may have been, Revs are normally used to differentiate between spec updates.

For your stated uses a 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 would probably be suffice. But if you are looking for something with a bit more punch, then a MacBook would be a great computer for you FrenchPB. :)

So does that mean that MBP's are rev B? Considering the change in the Duo's speed from 2GHz to 2.16GHz etc?

    Cheers

Since I finished studying two months ago, is it a big problem if I use the educational discount?

Just buy it in the U.S. in one of the states with the low tax rates. And try to find somebody who's adress you can use for the rebate. That's how I do it :)

Yes, as long as you still have your student ID, I think that you are still "entitled" to receiving the edu discount. :)

Yes, I still have my student ID, and I still feel like a student at heat if that conts ;)

Now if I want to get the rebate on the iPod Nano, I will need to use the same address than the one I will use for my order on the Apple Store (since I want to customize my MacBook a little bit, with more Ram notably).

I don't believe my hotel will forward a letter to me in France

How much would my Powerbook be worth? It's still in PERFECT shape, no scrath, dead pixel or anything whatsoever. Please consider that I will sell it in France, as prices are usually way over the ones in the US.
