Hello all of you mac gurus. I just recieved my new RAM from newegg and need help on installation. I have never ever ever done maintainace on a computer before. Everyone says it soooo easy. I pretty much understand how to install the RAM from looking at the guide but what about testing it? I did not know you are suppose to test it. I found this out when I read the reviews on the RAM when I was shopping around. How do you test the RAM?

    THANK YOU MAC GURUS.

You can test it by plugging it into ur RAM slot and turning on your machine. Then click on About This Mac....if your RAM increased....then your RAM is working properly. Otherwise, you'd need special equipment to just test the ram module itself.

Only way to find out/test it...is plugging them in. If they dont' work, then they are either defective or the wrong modules.

Sorry to say, but even if the ram shows up properly in your Mac, it doesn't guarantee the ram will run 100% stably. My suggestion is that after installed the ram, use memtest (memtestosx.org, free) to rule out any doubts. Also recommend Rember, gui wrapper for the memtest, available @ macupate.com.

Even software-based tests aren't perfect at finding bad RAM. Run them by all means, but the best test is to juts use the machine as you would. If it's bad RAM, it'll most likely show up sooner rather than later. :)
