Netflix yesterday announced its launch in the United Kingdom and Ireland, once again expanding the footprint of the company's popular streaming service.
With the launch, the company has made its services available across a number of different platforms, including the company's universal app for iPhone and iPad that has gone live in both countries' App Stores. In addition, we're hearing that Netflix has appeared as an option on the Apple TV in the new markets, although some users have had difficulties getting it up and running.

I used the app earlier and watched an episode of The Inbetweeners with no lag and the quality was really good. I was on a 2MB wifi network at work.

I am updating my Apple TV as I type this, but I will test it on my Apple TV and 10MB Virgin broadband.

    £6 is an absolute bargain

Good to see the international expansion that American customers unintentionally bankrolled through increasing premiums is finally off the ground.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

What I love about it is that my Apple TV is using my US iTunes account while Netflix lets me sign in with my new UK account, best of both worlds.

I assume in the new markets it's streaming only, no disks by mail?

    - Should have better support for streaming to Apple devices
    - If you want streaming-only, it's a lot cheaper
    - Lovefilm's streaming video quality is awful.

I'm going to try it out for a month and then decide, but I expect I'll end up dumping Lovefilm.

Humm, was interested but when I looked at the launch movies they generally appeared to be pretty poor to be honest.

I'd like to take the trial to investigate but I'm not keen on the Facebook integration.

I wasn't keen on that either. I clicked around and a small 'or sign up with email' link came up.

I therefore signed up by email (not Facebook) and even though the terms and conditions say that they want to put stuff on my Facebook wall, so far I haven't had to give them any Facebook access and it seems to work OK.

    ----------

Why would I care about that as a UK user?

They're only launching the streaming service here. There's no confusion.

Nah, it'd have to cost a lot more for quality like that :)

So Neftflix is working on your AppleTV?

That sucks. I signed up on the Mac and it went through OK.

Now watching 'Heroes' on my iPad. It's working great!

    Why is it so cheap?

Will it take a long time before new DVD releases end up on Netflix UK?

Advantage of Netflix UK over US

I'm wondering what shows are available for Netflix UK that are not on Netflix US.

I finally managed to sign up and it's working great on the iPad.

Netfix is now showing up on the menu of the Apple TV but gives an error message when you try to open it. Must be patient. :D

    Title says, launched in UK.

So why put up misleading US app images?

does this require a new iOS installation or does it just slide in? I'm on the latest JB at present and don't really want to lose it yet...
