My girlfriend and I live in the same apartment and use wireless yahoo BB to connect to the internet. She uses an iBook G4 and I use a MacBook. Recently we have encountered problems occasionally when we are both trying to use the internet, and Safari (or Camino) gets REALLY slow, then cannot open pages (even though network diagnostics detect nothing wrong with the internet connection).

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that on the iBook, there was a little eject icon next to the Network icon in Finder. I had never seen this before, so I "ejected" it, and we didn't have any more problems. However, today we are having the same problems, and the Network will not "eject" no matter how many times we try pressing the button or restarting the computer. It is extremely annoying.

I think the eject icon next to Network in the Finder is an OSX bug that, as far as I know, is unrelated to your problem. In other words, I reckon it was just by chance that the systems sped up afterwards.

Having said that, are you two connected to each other through either filesharing in Finder or maybe through iTunes or another app? Does Yahoo Wireless BB give you a wireless router and if so, have you tried broadcasting on a different channel? Next time this happens, connect through file sharing to her computer and try transferring something. This may help us narrow down to where the problem lies. :)
