When awaking from sleep on battery power my G4 cannot find the preferred network (WPA). Airport indicates full signal, but the ISP is not connected. After starting Network Diagnostics the green lights all come back on and connection is restablished. Is this normal?

At least I don't see lines on my display. :D

Is Network Diagnostics triggering the connection or is it just taking an abnormally long time to connect?

I'm glad you don't have a problem with the lines, it's a refreshing relief. :D

It takes a while either way, so I'm not sure if it would connect on it's own. I'll wait it out next time.

I've experienced this before, I usually enable/disable my network card and that fixes it.

This happens to me sometimes to but only if the signal strength is on the low side. Like you said: Give it some time to find the network and everything will be fine.
