Hi everyone. Seems like there is a new version of folding out.

http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/download.html

V5.02.

I presume this is a full release?

mc68k, are you going to update your scripts?

yup, new version is out, I've only installed it on just over half of my computer so far and my production has jumped significantly. from about 1000 per day average to almost 1600 per day now. I have one 2000 per day and a 1900 in the past couple of days. You have to make sure that you turn on the big packet option though. They currently have a 100% bonus to certain WUs that only come with the big packet option.

It's actually been available for about a month now. Strangely, both versions 4.00 and 5.02 are available on the download page.

This is a bit of topic.

I'm new to folding, and it seems that a WU takes forever to complete.
The app tells me that this wu has 400 frames, i have finished 7 frames in 3 hours! I thought there was a time limit in 3 days to complete a wu.
So i manage to get 7 frames in 3 hours, that will only be 168 frames in 3 days, not a half wu.

You're right--it is off-topic. ;)

However, each work unit has an expected time to completion all its own. There is no general number. You can find most at this page: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html

I currently have a p112, which takes approximately 30 minutes per frame, as well as others that report their progress by percentage.

How do I go about turning on the "big packet" option?

I was wondering if anyone else was getting those. They just threw THREE p112's at my processors. And the project isn't even on their stats page...

@mc68k:
I'm using your scripts on my computers. Do I need to wait until the script is updated in order to begin using v5? Once your script is updated, do I just "rid" the old one and then reinstall?

There are several that aren't on the statistics page. I think they're busier getting things encoded than they are documenting them. At least, the p581 and p582 that I also have are shown to count for big points since I won't add any points until the end of this week.

I believe those are p112*, it gets truncated for some reason, check the log, it should have a 1125, 1128 or something like that in the project desc ...

like

[12:58:41]
[12:58:41] Project: 1125 (Run 294, Clone 40, Gen 0)
[12:58:41]
[12:58:42] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[12:58:42] Entering M.D.

You're welcome to believe that, but it doesn't look like it's a mistake.

[01:19:35] Protein: p112_p678_L939_K12M_355K
[01:19:35] - Run: 2248146944 (Clone 570425344, Gen 67108864)
[01:19:35] - Frames Completed: 0, Remaining: 400
[01:19:35] - Dynamic steps required: 5000000

However, it looks like a redefined p678. ;)

I have a PowerMac Dual 450. Would this new upgrade work for me? Which one should I choose? I also have forgotten what I need to type into the Terminal to check on status of folding. Will this new program install automatically?

You should wait until mc68k finishes updating his scripts. At that time, you'll have everything in one package and won't have to be concerned with versions.

Thank you bousozoku, I feel much more comfortable doing that way. Hopefully he will let us know when it ready. May end up needing instructions again.

Thank you Dreadnought, I feel comfortable with doing that. Prefer not to mess too much in the terminal.

Nudge nudge! Hey mc68k, not to bug you but did you have a chance to work on the scripts? Two of my p112's are about to go home. :)
