Looking for some input. Current machine is a dual 2.3Ghz Powermac G5 with 4GB ram. It's dying, may be dead soon, and I'm looking to replace it. (Fan on X800XT going, one proc I believe going, hardware diag, not good, but I digress). I'm thinking of replacing it with a 20" iMac, 2.4Ghz, 4GB ram (Crucial, uh, not from Apple, LOL). I would also like to use my existing 20" Cinema Display as a 2nd monitor. My primary use, other than for surfing, e-mail and finances etc., is Photography. Aperture to be specific, along now with iMovie 08' for my video stuff. Has anyone made this type of "switch" and been happy? Will the newer iMac out power and outperform my aging Powemac? I'd love to by a mac pro to replace it, but frankly, I'm not spending that much again. The thought of a new iMac with 4GB ram for under 2k is very enticing. Thanks for any input.
