Great for buyers on the fence, but the resale value of iPads has really gone down the toilet with all these sales recently.

Such a huge contrast from when the iPad was first launched.

Why is resale value your first go to? I don't get it, all people talk about is the resale value of Apple products. Why bother buying it if all you are thinking about is resaleing it. Just save the money and don't buy it.

Because if you want the newest model it's better to get $101 than $100 for the previous one.

All the cellular ones are sold out for me. Besides, 3 new iPads are coming out just a few months from now in March. Rumors has it that the newer 12.9 Pro will have 6GB of RAM, so there is a chance that the 10.9 and 9.7 Pros will have at least 4GB of RAM.

Because better resale value makes it easier to upgrade later on. Or more money is better than less money. I'd think the answers to that question are pretty obvious.

They understand the importance and concept of resale value but I think the intended question was, "why is the issue of resale value raised in a thread that is trying to inform others of a good deal?"

I guess it depends upon your definition of "recently". There have been significant discount sales on iPads appearing with regularity for the past 2 years.

Apple appears to have changed their marketing strategy. Initially, Apple's plan was to allow a thriving private resale market to flourish in order to gain marketshare. Now that the market is flooded and new sales are declining, Apple shifted to a more traditional marketing approach of having periodic sales. Apple only gains revenue from the sale of NEW units. They see nothing from the private sale of existing units.

Resale value is kind of a wash if you buy one on sale. That said, probably harder to sell used now. Also, the really early adopters who must have it day one are kinda screwed in terms of resale.

My iOS devices just tend to get handed down to family members so I've never really cared about resale value.

The iPads really are amazing devices. Our house is filled with iPhones and Macs... but I bet I spend 90% of my computer time on the iPad Air. I knew I would like it but the degree of domination surprises me. For instance, I'm literally sitting in my office chair, directly in front of my Mac... and yet I'm typing this on the iPad. Just seems to always be the one in my hand.

And my iPad does have cell... but I always have my iPhone around me. A wifi only model is cheaper and slightly lighter and it will save you $10 a month on your AT&T bill. Just use your iPhone as a personal hotspot and connect on the road that way.

Depends on how much and how often you need cellular. Personal hotspot sometimes fails usually at the most inconvenient times.

Also, I like preserving battery life on the iPhone so I can use it in case of emergency.

I haven't seen anyone mention this but the 256GB 9.7 iPad Pro is now $649 @ Target (that's $250 off!) That is insane.
Apple lowered pricing on 128GB and 256GB Wi-Fi to $699 and $799 respectively when they announced the iPhone 7. That's just $150 off current MSRP.

Best Buy has similar aggressive deals on the Pro and Mini 4. I just scooped up a Mini4 and didn't even need one!

Great post! You know what I was going to ask why, but then thought better of it. Don't bother elaborating.
I think you are the only one who understood my post ! there is no reason to buy an product that will be replaced soon !

Because he believes that there will be updated Pros in March that will have 6GB RAM, faster processor, and glass-less 3D screen. Well, I made that last one up but it is just as possible as 6GB RAM. :p
And If it have 6GB of ram ?
It is possible .

I got the Mini 4 though..Just for a coffee table device.

You're being a bit silly...$200 off is nothing to sneeze at.

No one is telling you to buy if you don't want to...
Ok, you can buy whenever you want . I would not buy an iPad Pro now knowing that the sucessor it's just 3 months away .I would rather wait 3 months with my Air 2 than buying an Pro 12.9 or 9.7 right now

Well my last iPad was/is an iPad 2 so if I were in the market for a full size iPad I'd pull the trigger with the current savings to be had. I don't rely on an iPad as a primary device and mark my words I never will, so having something that is last gen would be ok. I am sure there are a lot of folks that would be as well and appreciate an opportunity to save a few shekels on once. I just saved $100 and I am happy about it!

Where is it listed as $200 off? I know that it's $100-150, but not seeing anywhere it being $200 off.

That being said, I would and did buy an iPad mini 4.
