I have a 3G iPod that shipped with a Firewire cable. The included powerblock has a female Firewire connection that I can plug my dock connector-Firewire cable into directly.

The new iPods (I'm getting a silver mini soon) come with a USB2 cable now, right? How does the powerblock work?

If I remember correctly, the new minis come with USB powerblocks.

Afraid that the power block doesn't come with the new mini.

But I think the dock connectors are the same so you should be able to use your existing Firewire cable/charger with your new mini.

Ah. That's too bad. Just read this article and it explains the situation well. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, my fault. Was it was the 1st generation iPod minis that came with USB powerbricks?

No iPods come with the USB powerbrick, that is an extra buy. If an iPod comes with a power adapter (the PHoto's I think), they are still firewire.

    Hmm....

First gen minis came with a firewire cable and a power adapter with a firewire port.
The new minis come with a usb cable and no power adapter.
Either use the firewire cable you have (included with 3G iPods and the first 4G iPods) or spring for a USB power adapter.

Are you talking about the USB cable or the USB power brick?
