This is my dad's account, so do get me wrong, if there were any other threads then they were from him, this is my first ever post here.

I received a NEW MACBOOK PRO 17" from my Dad for my birthday today! Oh man I was excited I tore open the box (the shipping one) and stared in shock at the box for the laptop I have been drooling over since before its release. I opened the box, saw the sleeve it was enclosed it, opened it up, and saw, before my very own 13 year old eyes the MacBook Pro. I plugged in the power adapter and turned it on, heard the ever-so-popular Apple Chime, and instead of seeing a Setup Wizard (according to the manual), I saw a blinking folder with a ? inside of it. What does this mean? Do I not get to use my MacBook Pro at all? What do I do to fix it?! Someone please help!

Sorry I pissed you off, but thanks for the info. Dad called Apple and is currently taking care of the problem.

Dead HDs happen, it's a common failure on ANY notebook, even brand new. just because it's a macbook pro with the issue doesn't mean crap.

I'm sorry to hear about it, but dont' worry, it'll all work out in the end. :-D

I hate when that happens. This is where patience is a virtue though, hang in there and it will all be fine.

My girlfriend has to send back her new educational imac...it came and works but needs the PRAM reset A LOT! Apple is sending labels that we can affix to the box. I assume they'll send the replacement machine very quickly. Anyone know if Apple has been known to include any perks when replacing new defunct machines? An ipod for the hassle or something....
