    Hey Guys,

I've had my brand new mbp c2d for quite some while now ('high end' 15" model with 160 gb hd) and I've been very happy with it from the start.

I've noticed some small problems, however.
To start with; the right 'hook' of the maglatch mechanism does not fully retreat into the bezel of the screen when I open it. Though the functionality of the lock is not compromised in any way, I find it to be annoying and a possible weakness (it might break off...)

The other issue is a bit worse. I use my MB for audio and video editing and therefore I need the audio to be absolutely representative of the end result. The audio issue is as follows; during audio playback using the headphone plug with either speakers and headphones, the audio coming from the left channel is slightly distorted (it sounds like a filter has been put over it). This is especially noticable when using a high quality set of headphones (such as my sony mdr-v900's). The distortion seems to reduce at higher volumes.

As one might expect I've already contacted apple about this and they thought the logic board might have to be replaced. I think i'm gonna send it in since I've ordered up applecare along with my MB.

I'm just curious.. Has anybody else here experienced any of the above issues, and than especially the audio one? If so, is this problem software or hardware related?

    Cheers,

    JW

    Hi,

To start off with, which laptop do you own?

You mentioned MB in the 3rd paragraph, but you also mentioned MBP in the title, and the maglatch in the 2nd. The C2D doesn't have a magnetic latch to my knowledge...?

He obviously has a MBP since he has a 15" model...

I also have the "high end" 15" model and my latches do retreat mostly all the way into the bezel. I have not experienced any distortion from audio, although you may want to try using other headphones to test. I may recommend the Sony V6... as it blows pretty much any MDR-VXXX out of the water and only costs about 90 dollars (if they still make it). If you want to look into better headphones, you can check out www.headphone.com and www.head-fi.com

@ iW00t, I'm indeed talking about the 15" mbp c2d model (2.33, 160gb, 2gb ram). I thought the correct term for the display lock was 'maglatch' since it obviously uses magnetics but I guess I was wrong :).

And Mallow005, The first thing that I thought of when I first heard the distortion was a failure in the headphones so I hooked them up to my Ipod and played the exact same song as the one I was listening to; the audio was clean and great as always. Also, listening to the MBP with lower cost headphones and with external speakers sets produces the same distortion. Thanks for the tip on the headphones websites though, though I'm perfectly happy with my current set I'll be sure to take a look at them when I need new ones.
