    9/15/05 - First X-Mas advertisement...got this from Cafe Press.

    Hello Shopkeepers,

Yep, it's that time of the year again. Before you hang mistletoe, light candles, sing wholeheartedly or dance about with wild abandon, you want to prep your shop for the biggest retail season of the year. Your shoppers are out there and waiting to find The Perfect Gift for their loved ones. Helping them find it starts now!

I spotted some Xmas stuff in some shops here in London last week... not much, but it's like Gremlins -- soon we'll be overrun.

I like the build-up to Xmas more than the day itself.

Well, I was going to get you a 30" Cinema Display but if you're happy with a Nano than that's cool, babes. :D

Better than the "Back to School" car advertisements I saw 10 years ago.

I actually think it's better to start shopping early. You'll have to do it anyway, and if there is something very specific that you want to get someone important to you, doing it at the last minute isn't a good idea.

i find that the christmas advertising campaign from september:eek: all the way to the acttual day builds up false hopes and expectations. the actual day is quite the anticlimax. then the adverts come on: only 364 days to go! better start getting ready!!!

No - I think its more a realization that its going to be a poor holiday for retailers and they know it - so they're trying to get people to think about it sooner. At least it was after Labor Day.....bleh.

I'm just waiting for the January sales to start. The last couple of years they started mid December :) They might as well just shift Christmas to November, perhaps just have an 11 month year so that we can enjoy Christmas more often :D

Well, in all fairness, it is a notice to store owners, who probably need some prep time if they're going to have Xmas decorations and items available by the late-September start of the season....

I've got most of my Christmas shopping done. During the really HOT days of summer, I address my cards (that I bought on sale last year after Christmas) and then I can really enjoy the holidays. I start baking cookies, making fudge, etc. around Halloween and freeze them.. I usually have a really busy schedule around Christmas, so this post is not meant to sound smug, just show creative time management. :p

Very good planning emmawu. Many people would do well to go and follow your good use of time management (me for instance). :)

I had to do something after one too many holidays from hell. It's so good not to be stressed! My friends and I have a cookie baking day and it's quite fun. Then we all share what we made (and eat far too many cookies). Heavy sigh, I'm actually looking forward to cookie day.

I received the LL Bean Christmas catalog in the mail this week I guess winter is just around the corner. Of course, winter is always just around the corner in Minnesota.

Bah.. I'll just follow tradition and buy the presents a couple of days before Xmas day. No need to start so early.

i already have half of all christmas presents together. started buying them in april......

i totally reject this chrismas shopping frenzy. every year you torture yourself to find prensents for people who have everything and don't need anything. then you buy some useless junk just to not show up empty handed. and on top of that they expect you to tell them what you want as a present. i don't need anything that one can buy!!!!

Due to the number of work-related books I get, my company helped pay for Amazon Prime for me for a year. So... I needn't worry until December 22nd or 23rd about gift-giving. ;)
