For reference my book, Sparknotes the New SAT, says that:

    2100 at least for Yale
    1900 is UCLA bound
National Average is 1520 (Based on previous and preliminary scores)

Last time I took an SAT I was given a percentage score. I think I was in the 90th percentile.

What, 1600 is no longer the maximum (perfect) score?

For the record, I scored 1440 (740 math, 700 verbal) back in '86. Highest score in a class of 500+ seniors.

nope, 2400's the max because of the added essay portion. i took it in 7th grade for some reason; forget why; and did okay but that was before the essay  that'll be my downfall as i can't write worth ****

Let's say that it's not a good idea to do bong rips and beer chugs the night before your SAT's.

    890 :(

But it didn't really matter cause I went to community college, and then transfered. :p

But you youngins study hard. Hear me?

Ah, I kept wondering why all these people were reporting such high scores. I was like, I didn't think that was possible. Back when I took the test I was in the 88th percentile and my score was um... a lot less than 1600. :p

I got my scores, I scored a 1960. Pretty good I think, but I would like to get above 2000.

I don't take any AP classes or anything like that. Just one honors class (spanish).

A friend of mine (a genius, seriously) got perfect. 2400/2400. No joke, he is so smart.

Ok, I guss i'll go now. I got a 1940, and I too wanted to break the 2 mark. I got a 12 on the essay though. The schools i'm looking at don't stress scholastics that much anyway. I'll take it again in June.

wow, ook-la has really upped their stock

in my day, late 70s-early 80s, ucla was the overflow for usc and cal tech rejects, much the way that cal berkeley was the overflow for stanford rejects in the northern part of the state

Was 1300 a good mark? Was 1200? Would 1200 mean that you would be flipping burgers for the rest of your life? If you were a fairly smart guy and did okay at school (lets say you got a "B" average), would 1300 be what you would expect?

I always had this idea in my head that if you scored 1300 on your SATs, you were smart, or smart enough to get into most schools, just not Unis like Harvard or whatever.

And Berkeley is now one of the best Unis in America. Top 5 or so, probably. ;) UCLA is supposed to be quite good too, I hear.

What are the equivalent scores now?

    I scored a 2100.

I'm going to take it again in June because my friend scored a 2360, and I feel ashamed.

Anything less than 900 was considered sub-par... I think the national average was somewhere between 900 and 1000 for a long time. 1200 was pretty good; 1300 was REALLY good; 1400 was freakin' awesome. I think about 10 students a year in the entire US used to score a perfect 1600. A 1300 combined with a really good GPA and good extracurriculars would get you into Harvard back then. Sadly, my 1440 was paired with a 3.3 GPA (I'm an underachiever), so I didn't get into MIT (my first choice) or Duke (made the standby list).

One BIG problem with the SAT used to be that some states would actively discourage students from taking the test if it was felt they wouldn't achieve a high score... NC had one of the consistently lowest average scores, since virtually every student here took the SAT and we even had an extra test day not offered to most other states.

I had no idea that the SAT scoring had changed..

    Back in 1989, I got a 1310.

EDIT: I guess since I matriculated in college in 1990, that I probably took the SATs in 1989?

An essay portion? So it worth a whole 1/3? Bleh - so how long does the test take now?

I got 1360 way back when (I think)....never did like the test, either.

My bro got a 2200 I think. A 790 on the math part...

I took this back in the 7th grade and got like an 1160. Was in like 50% of high school seniors on English (540) and 75% in math (620)...

I just remembered this from the night before the test:

In your opinion, did you OWN the test?
