What are your folks thoughts on when the iphone will get a design change? Does anyone think it will be anytime in 2016?

Well, more or less every numbered (non-s) model is a design change, and since the next model is expected to be the iPhone 7 in 2016, that will have a new design.

So which is it an iphone 7 in 2016 or NO new iphone at all in 2016?

CNeufeld - where and when did you come across that they wouldn't be releasing a new iphone this new year?

He was joking. There'll be an iPhone 7 in September 2016 if the past umpteen Septembers have been anything to go by...

Not an odd question. This year we got the same design just with new features and bumped up specs etc.

As we did every couple of years previously.....remember the 3GS, 4S, 5S which were all just the same design as the phone from the year before but with spec upgrades.

Should be a new design next year. Unless they phone it in again and release more lame "what's changed" ads.

Actually only since Sept 2012 has there been new iPhone every September. So it's been 4 years running. First four iPhones were released in June/July. Than 4S was announced and released in October 2011 the day before Steve jobs died.

Yeah, the past umpteen Septembers.
Regardless, there's a new one every year.

Apple generally use the same design for 2 years. And always redesign the internals on the 2nd year of it's design (S model). If apple plan continues to follow this tradition then iPhone 7 will be redesigned. My guess is that the speed will be greater but who knows what's under the hood. We'll just have to find out in September 2016 and see what Apple has for us.

I heard Apple isn't going to do a new phone in 2016. They have too much money in the bank, so they're just going to take a breather and let us all get caught up.

C
Right... Apple is having more and more competition as they remain without any real innovation for years (as far as the iPhone goes), if they continue to slack it will push them further behind.

I know you're being sarcastic, but honestly, I think I'd be okay with this. Make iOS the best it can be, let some new features pan out, and give us a hell of an iPhone in 2017.

I was being sarcastic. Sorry I didn't use the Sarcasm font.

The new features and "bumped up specs" (2GB of RAM, anyone?) were a significant "design change", even if you didn't see it on the outside. The design is more than just skin deep. Unless your phone is simply a pretty paperweight, or you want the latest Rose Gold color so people can tell you've bought the latest and greatest... The changes for the S cycles are often more significant from a usability perspective than the number changes.

In any case, as others have noted, they've been doing the 4/4s/5/5s/6/6s cycle for awhile. But the only people who really know if there will be a snazzy new looking iPhone next year likely aren't posting on this forum.

And that's exactly what was expected for quite a while now with this year being an "s" model year.
