17" MBP was very much needed and is a very nice release, but the ibooks are 9 months old and really do need to be replaced at this point. Hard to see what the hold up with these things are...

I thought that most rumor sites agreed that Apple would just have a 13" MacBook to simplify things. The 12" PB was pretty similar to the iBook in specs anyway.

Just trash this thread. There have been about 50 today that are just retarded.

BTW, The 12" PB has 64mb instead of 32 and the harddrive that comes stock is twice as big, and they aren't built liek flimsy garbage. Not to mention the processor bump, superdrive stock, etc.

odd how everyone seems to be assuming that apple is going to kill the 12" powerbook and combine the lines and have a 13" macbook to fill it's place, the 12" powerbook fulfills an important role one that will probably be filled by a 13" MBP and the ibook line will get it's 13" MB.

I have to agree with caleb on ths one. Except for the fact that I think iBooks are built pretty well.

I'm not upset it wasn't released... heck, I dont even want one, I just think a portable (12") pro laptop would receive much more sales than a 17" laptop... those things are just huge and unnecessary.... its the size of an iMac screen, and those aren't near portable. 17" laptops are just dumb i think.

Eh, I loved my iBook when I had it, but it just didn't feel very stable. The handrests creaked and the hinge bent for no reason and it was just very floppaloppaloppy.

the radeon 9550 is a lot better than the 5200go, even if it does have half the VRAM. video performance will still usually be better on the ibook

a crucial point. I think it's ridiculous that people say that a MB can replace both the ibook and the 12" powerbook. There need to be small versions of both pro and consumer machines.

Good points QCassidy352. Both of these reasons played into my purchasing of my 12" 1.33GHz iBook G4. :)

That said, I am beginning to seriously consider selling my iBook for a MBP. :)

The hold up is that ALL the mac models need to be replaced this year. It takes time to completely redo every last computer they ship, simple as that.

    No.

And I'm sure you know What Would Sell much better than the company who actually sells them. Thanks for letting us bask in your infinite wisdom.

I think it's ridiculous to complain about a product when we know NOTHING about it, particularly which configurations it will ship in.

    I agree

Nab runs for a week so there is still time... if it isn't released now and quietly then it will be really soon...
    just my .02 cents
But this is a useless thread

The 17" MBP's will have a huge demand. I know quite a few people that are professional photographers and they always had their 17" PB's with them whenever they went on a shoot. It's a portable desktop really. 17" is great for the screen size, and it doesn't need to be small. People needing that size screen have a lot of stuff with them already anyway.

I agree with you calebjohnston, the 17" MacBook Pro's have their uses and as such, there will be a large demand for them. But for people on the go like me (commuter at college) I need a more portable laptop.
