Whether you know her name or not, Jane Jacobs probably had an impact on your life.

    She will be missed . . .

Her death cause a fair bit of a discussion and reflection in my architecture office yesterday . . . it seems that yesterday morning a group of professors and the office principals met in our boardroom to discuss the next season of forum lectures at Carleton University School of Architecture, and Jane Jacobs was someone who was frequently on the wish list (optimistically given her health in the last year or so) but I guess that won't be happening anymore. Death and Life is still on the required reading at the School . . . and will likely remain that way for a long time yet.

May her work live on . . .

I suspect it will -- she laid down the groundwork for much of how we address urban issues today. Due to the length, I had to cut out the part of her obituary where she and her family moved to Toronto in 1968.
