So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs). Any thoughts?

You don't need to remove 2008 to install 2011. Both can coexist fine on your system. The question is, do you have a need to keep 2008? Is there anything you can do with it that you can't do with 2011? It is eating up some disc space, but other than that, it shouldn't cause problems. Personally, I'm sticking with 2008.

Rip it out. 2011 is so much nicer and you'll never find a need to use 2008.

I agree 2011 Word is a great improvement. My only concern were compatibility issues of 08 to 11. Overall, it was well worth the $60 and since I have a SSD which is limited space, I guess I will delete it given I have the install disk for 2008 and a carbon copy of it on an external.

    GGJ,
The user interface is substantially better IMO as it allows quicker navigation, easier use of features, a better 'help' system, and more customization to how you want it. I'd check it out if you use Word a lot as it really impressed me. I was going to keep 08 until the post 11 update, but I was so impressed I bought 11. I've also been told by users that it has features and capabilities that the Windows version of Office either does not support or impossible to locate or understand.

I've had to use the ribbon toolbar while helping clients on Office 2007 and I strongly dislike it. It makes commands much harder to find, IMO. The redesign of the ribbon toolbar is, IMO, an example of change for the sake of change, rather than improving functionality. It takes a long time to learn where all the commands are. The reduction in productivity while searching for commands is not outweighed by any noticeable improvement that I can see.

    Will I lose files?

Excuse the basic question but if I uninstall 2008 after I have installed 2011 I won't lose the documents I created under 2008 will I?

When you uninstall any Office version, it doesn't remove your files... only the apps and related components. In the vast majority of cases, when you uninstall an app, it doesn't affect your user files you created with that app.

    Uninstall Office 2008

If I uninstall Office 2008 using the utility in the O2008 application folder and have already installed Office 2011, will it affect O2011? I am a little weary since it says nothing about it when you go to uninstall.

    Thoughts?

It shouldn't affect Office 2011, since you can have two different versions installed simultaneously. However, with Microsoft, you never know. Be prepared to reinstall or repair Office 2011, just in case uninstalling 2008 removes files needed by 2011.
