Well, today I made another trip to the Apple store in the King of Prussia Mall. Last week I bought a "floor model" 1.83GHz MacBook Pro, but it was plagued by the dreaded screen buzz, processor whine, and excessive overheating problems.

So today I brought it back, exchanged it (and some cash) for machine #2- a 2GHz MacBook Pro. The screen buzz is no longer an issue, the processor whine is not as audible, but the machine still gets rather toasty. I have an iCurve on the way, hopefully that helps alleviate some of the heat.

No real point to this thread, but just thought I would share my experience so far.

Anyone have any tips on keeping the MBP cool?

I've been real fortunate that I haven't had to deal with some of the issues others have had with this notebook. I bought it for school after having such issues with both my Windows computers (my Dell Inspiron 1000 I had for about six months before replacing it with the Inspiron 600m for better hard drive space (you have no idea how much hard drive space my iTunes stuff took up), then ended up losing all my digital images of Cozumel, Key West, New York.

It was what made me decide to get an Apple. I've been thoroughly pleased with the computer, and I have suffered the buzz, both of them actually....but the monitor buzz isn't that bad and the whine can easily be controlled by QuietMBP. :s

Thankfully, the monitor whine is gone (that drove me through the roof). And yes, Quiet MBP does work nicely- but it is not always needed on this new MBP.
