Upon switching from a week 19 macbook to a 1 week old macbook d2c.... is that the fans always run...at about 1799RPM but there is no heat to speak of...my old macbook was dead silent no fans running at all until it was about 60 C....then the fans would kick on...anyone else have this???

Are you sure the fans were not running on the old one as well? I know that when I had my CD MBP iStat pro wouldn't read my fan speeds, but now it does on my C2D.

Also, my fans on my C2D are always around 2000 rpm but they are DEAD SILENT. I didn't even know the fans ever ran until I got iStat pro detecting them, and even now I have a hard time believing they are actually spinning.

My hard drive makes basically all the noise that my MBP gives out. When it spins down due to no usage, I cannot hear any noise at all from where I'm sitting.

No my macbook week 19 never had the fans running unless i was surfing for 2 or more hours, I have been blessed with super hearing....no joke...and they stay around 1900RPM......but my old one never ran......and never got any amount of heat till after 2 hours.....its not load...just a sound that sometimes while in bed...and if it sitting on my chest ...sounds lounder.... lets hear it for super hearing LOL

It was as dead silent as my old ibook g4

So is it considered a fault? A 'problem?' Or was this the desired effect?

The firmware update made the fans run all the time to counteract heat before it becomes an issue. It was an intentional fix. Mine are always running around 1700, but I never hear them, and my macbook is usually very cool.

But isn't that going to make the fans die faster eventually?

    ...sure glad I got applecare.

speaking of noises, on my core duo MBP, my fans are silent, but I think I can hear the constant whirl of my hard drive... is this normal? it sounds like a fan, but I know it's my hard drive. are hard drives in the MBP supposed to be audbile?

Hey it's a free world. Technically he should be allowed to do whatever he wants, but I guess technically you are allowed to think whatever you want of it too :D

But if you sell them you won't lose that much $ anyhow. It's like leasing a car.
