I guess becoming unfathomably rich from doing no work, just owning land is not enough for them. Indirectly controlling the economy of the developed nations is not enough, this cartel (btw- illegal in the US) is so greedy that they want provisions written to the Kyoto treaty that gives them money if the world reduces its use of oil!

opec should have never existed. they found a "gold mine" and rode it out to the end, who cares. we didn't aid the tech companies that folded after the internet bubble burst, and i want no part in helping opec after their oil bubble bursts. theirs just lasted a bit longer.

the world will be better without this organization.

It's a pretty interesting concept, but one that just isn't going to work. Also, even if the world were to massively begin to develop alternative energy plans, it will take decades for them to take hold. That gives the oil producing states plenty of time to diversify their economies. Instead of trying to tax that which will save the world from its own filth they need to take responsibility for their own destiny.
