Whilst browsing around the internet I've come across a couple of sites that offer free movies, books and audio and purport to be legal.

The Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/

OpenCulture: http://www.openculture.com/

I should imagine that most of this is public domain stuff, or in the case of the Grateful Dead, artist endorsed.

Has anyone used these to any extent and are they legal, safe and clean?

Are there many similar sites out there tucked away until you bump into them?

One site that I spend sometime on is: http://www.folkstreams.net/
This is great for films of old and often overlooked American culture, the only trouble is I can only seem to stream them by opening a 'ram' file and using vlc.
No big deal though, I enjoy the site just the same.

Just curious as to what other free media (legal, safe sites only) is out there.
