Opening tabs in the background in Firefox

    To open a tab in the background in Firefox, I shift+cmd+click. But it doesn't work in Gmail, since Gmail, by default, opens links in a new window. It works in Windows, though. How do I fix this?

    I just cmd-click to open new tabs in the background, it also works with links that should open in a new window, that I force to open in a new tab. Here's my Firefox 1.5 tab settings, which I beleive will make FF tabs work like you want (if you just cmd-click instead of cmd-shift-clicking):

    I only want to open specific tabs in the background. Specifically, the ones in my Gmail, since I can then go through all of my email, opening links in the background tabs. I still want normal behavior to act so that new tabs are automatically focused.
