When the new iPods were announced, I was underwhelmed for 2 reasons: no increase in storage, and USB-only syncing. As a late model PowerBook owner and a new Dell laptop user, USB is nowhere near as seamless as FireWire.

I bought one of the 30Gb models, and I am warming up to it. I still HATE syncing with USB — I had a nice FireWire hub set up at work and home, and that reduces part of its usefulness. And I found myself enjoying the few music videos I bought — it is a neat way to spend your commute. I made iPod-compatible versions of home movies of my Golden Retriever puppy, and it's a neat thing to have. Now we just need more commerical content available! I'd love to be able to see "Sex & The City" on my way to work!

However, the most stunning thing was how GOOD the music sounds! This is the first iPod I've owned that can keep up with my Bose headphones. Lower-quality or lower-bitrate encoded music was noticeable. I listen to rock, club music, and the like, so I've never really noticed the music quality before. I will probably retire my 4G 60Gb for a new one, since it sounds so good.

Anyway...just thought I'd toss in my 2 cents after my first week with them!:)

yeh im not terribly impressed with them. This is coming from a hardcore iPod fan, by the way

something about them just makes me think their losing out with them. No FireWire is a big thing, and also maybe its coz im no longer individual and different with my white buds.

    my 2 cents

i love mine. i havent used a regular-sized ipod since 3G and i'm really impressed with how they've come along. i'm yet to try a video on it, but i will do at some point in the near future. since my 3G, i've had a zen micro (don't even get me started), a shuffle and a nano and none of them even come close...i like being able to carry a decent chunk of my music collection with me, as opposed to just a playlist :)

these new ones also seem far more rugged and durable than the nano...which is nice

    my 2 pence :p

I agree - I love the new iPods!

I actually went out and brought a nano thinking that I was safe as nothing was being updated, and then actually HAD to get the new iPod a week later! Its a sickness really! But seriously, it handles well, feels great being thinner, and actually keeps to the job of still being the number one music player! I'm happy.:)
