I am not a master of chess but this program doesn't even give me any trouble whatsoever. Even at the strongest setting his program is like playing some old burnt out dude at a coffee house!

    Anyone else notice this?

The engine used by Apple really isn't at its best with plain old chess. More details here.

I can never beat the computer. Then again, I suck at chess. I couldn't win if I got instructions from a master.

that's a bit ingenuous as a post... I've run the Mac Chess program against good players online, and it generally whips their butt, even on the lower settings. If you're able to easily beat the computer, you're more than just a Sunday afternoon hack... So basically I'm ready your post as "God I'm such a brilliant player at chess, god I'm good, just ask me, now everyone tell me how good I am" kind of post.

For the record, I can beat my Mac, but it isn't easy, and I certainly can't do it if I'm playing a timed game.

Depends on what version of OSX you have. In Tiger, it is very easy to beat the computer. In older versions of OSX, it was ridiculously hard.

I'm not sure about OSX Chess, but the Big Bang Chess included on my iMac was easy to beat on all difficulty settings (beat it the first game on each setting). The alternate AI you can enable, though, is a different story...

I can beat it in Tiger at about 1/3 of the slider (does that make sense?). Anything more than that and I get pwned. I did not realize that Tiger was easier. Now I feel really stupid.
