OS X Sever vs 3rd party MDM

Currently using a 3rd party MDM solution for managing iOS devices. Problem is that 3rd party apps cannot run in the background for too long so GPS tracking is useless unless you constantly remind employees to "open" the MDM app all day long. Can anyone point me to a comparison of using OS X Server vs 3rd party MDM solutions? Thanks,
