I restarted my macbook after my dock crashed and when it came back on i lost everything that was downloaded to my desktop, widgets, and all my itunes music. I checked the disk and the windows (bootcamp) hd partition needed to be fixed. I used first aid and fixed it but now my adobe illustrator for OSX wont work.

You might be able to get some files back by using Data Rescue II.

Yellow. This has nothing to do with the topic at hand but, whenever I see your Avatar I picture Cletus saying it.:p

Kansas. No, not on a farm.
    Mac OS X? Crash?

    That's a first.

Damn it, Apple, shouldn't have switched to Intel.

Did it delete it from iTunes, or your computer? Because, if it was only in iTunes, your music is still on your computer...

Finder > Home Folder > Music > iTunes > iTunes Music...

... Select all and double click. If there is anything in there, it's all of your music, and it will be added to iTunes.

Your playlists will be gone, but atleast you will have your songs.

    Hope it helps.
If your songs are not in that folder, then you lost them all.

i just switched and even after my music got deleted i am damn glad i did. But yeah i did check the actual folder that the music was supposed to be in and it wasnt there. All my programs did a reboot and now all the tips that come up when you first install them came back and its like i just got the macbook all over again.

Take a look in the Users folder for other users. Or perhaps search for your old username or files. If your old user folder got moved (either intentionally or accidently), it'll look like everything was deleted but it's just sitting elsewhere on the hard drive.

This is really odd. OS X doesn't just crash and automatically delete your music. Something had to have caused this... perhaps Boot Camp backfired?

This has happened to me many times!

1)Filevault probably is the cause if you are using it, if you are then I assume when it was getting some disc space back you may have shut the lid or turned it off by holding the button!

if you have then all your music should be okay but you probably have corrupted you playlist file not your music. maybe with you files as well, did you dock go back to how it was when you first bought it?

your documents on the desktop could still be there, you will have to go to home in the finder and open the folder desktop, are they in there?

What I had to do to fix the problems because repairing the permissions will not do anything, is to reformat.

thats if you have all the symptoms above!
