I've reviewed some previous RAID config and enclosure questions, but I couldn't find anything that answered the situation I describe below:-

I've been looking at OWC's Mercury Elite Pro -AL RAID FW800 Drive Enclosure (phew!)

It has a firmware option, which splits the unit back into the two internal drives, which then allows you to set up a RAID1 (mirrored) config using OSX's disk utility.

My question is, if I needed to connect this unit to second Mac (in case of a Mac failure or other reason) - I'm assuming the second Mac would see the unit as two separate drives, rather than one RAID1 unit?

If this is the case, would I just need to re-configure the unit as a RAID1 combo again, before I accessed the unit. Would I loose any data doing this?

EDIT: I managed to find an answer elsewhere. For those interested, the RAID information is written to the disks, so they should be 'portable'.
