Quick question that I wasn't sure of:
My PB should be here sometime today, and I was wondering if it needed to be fully charged before using it, or if I could use it right away by plugging it in the wall, with no ill-effects on the battery.

Also, what is this calibration I hear of?

You can use it straight away. However, it is important that you charge it fully up and then, once it is fully charged, let it run down without plugging it in again until it has fallen asleep from low power. This calibrates you battery and should be done every few weeks just so that the machine knows exactly what constitutes a full battery and never overcharges it. :)

    Sounds good.

What kind of charge is in the battery out of the box? I know cell phones only have enough charge to allow for programming.

Yes, you can use your PowerBook right out of the box. My wife's was fully charged. It is a good idea to plug in the wall though. Then it can easily be run off the battery. It will go to sleep when the battery runs down and then can be plugged in again. Then it can still be used while charging.

Yeah. This has got to be one of the pains of the techno-age. Every vendor wants you to keep the original packaging incase you have to return the product. I have an attic full of boxes. :( :(
