    Hi everyone,

Is there any simple freeware/shareware out there that will allow me to password protect folders in the finder? I've seen some shareware that will allow me to 'hide' folders and then access them by opening up the application, but this is quite unwieldy in my view. I just want to be able to apply password protection to certain folders so that there is a prompt for a password when they are opened.

is it possible to do this?

    Thanks,

    SG

Not exactly. I'd recommend making an encrypted disk image in Disk Utility. They need a password to mount/decrypt, and as soon as you eject them they're secure again. Works basically the same. You can even make them from a folder.

You can do this with AppleScript, but it's not very secure. Since anyone can remove folder actions.

    Just make an encrypted DMG.
