Last night while typing on my PBG4 I accidentally unplugged it and it just shut off.

Lately it has only been working if the adapter is plugged in, so for the past few weeks I've had it plugged in constantly. Except when I'm taking it somewhere and I unplug the adapter from the wall and while the PBG4 is closed it will stay on.

At one point in time it was only charging to 67%, and would go up 1% seemed like every hour. At that time I thought surely it was about to die on me. But here I am a few weeks later and I figured that if I just keep it plugged in I'll be alright.

But I miss the "wireless" concept of having a laptop. Can anyone assist me as to why my powerbook stays at 100% [yes always plugged in] and why if the power adapter is not in, it no longer works?

Thanks in advance. I believe I've provided all needed information.

Some of the symptoms you described sound familiar to me. Recently, I replaced my PowerBook's battery because it would only charge to 80% and then less and less until it couldn't hold a charge at all. It sounds like you may need a new battery, but I would suggest having it looked at by a technician, who can perform the appropriate tests, before going out and committing your funds to a new battery.

    Good luck.

Most likely you'll need a new battery. Before that happens, though, you should try resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU). Also, once you do buy that new battery, be sure to follow Apple's recommended steps to maintain battery health.

Yep I suppose my battery is dead. There is an X in my battery icon.

PBG4 still works when plugged into the wall...and right now I cannot afford to get a new battery (just graduated college and will begin work on Monday as a sub teacher).

Is it possible for my PBG4 to continue running like this...if I don't unplug it??

If you have someone that you know with the same size powerbook, swap out the battery with theirs to see if that solves the problem. If that doesn't solve the problem, it's a logic board. That will be appr $400 from Apple, but that will give you a full refurb.

Reset your PRAM before you start freaking about the logic board.
