Well, I made the switch Saturday. My original question to the forum was here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=161311

The folks at the Houston Galleria Apple Store were very helpful, props to them. They were kind enough to make sure I got a "late 2005" model w/1.5Ghz/64Mb Vram.

After spending many hours with the new Mac Mini this weekend, I can only make one real observation....Why did I wait so long to get it?!?

    ;)

To any PC users who need a machine for web/email/music/word processing, a Mini is for you! That little box is absolutely amazing. Blows the doors off the 1.5Ghz Athlon PC it replaced. No comparing Win2K on the AMD and OS X on the Mini. The Mini smokes it, hands down.

The primary user of the machine is my wife, she is very happy with her "early Christmas present". It was hilarious, when we left the house to get it, she makes the comment "We better take my truck if we're buying a computer, it won't fit in your car". I had a good laugh! (she's used getting Dells in at work..)

Another Mac is most certainly in this PC user's future! If you're a PC user on the fence about getting a Mini, don't wait, get it. You won't regret it.

My only complaint with the Mini is it's lackluster video card. Otherwise it's a great entry-level model to get folks into Apple/Mac/OS X.

It's not lackluster when compared to the mass of integrated video chips on the PC side. Still, where's a 9550 for it?

Heck yea, the Houston Galleria Apple is the place to go! (I went to the Woodlands opening.. Even though I know one of the clerks, and he's a pretty cool dude... just.. naw, Houston Galleria is the way to do it!)

    Enjoy your new mini!

BTW, You going back on Friday? Apparently they're having a after-Thanksgiving sale... (oo, tempting!)

I'm sure that if the mini goes on sale, they can help ya out. They're pretty nice about that. (they keep letting me use my brother's EDU discount for some reason.. even though I'm not him.) Just bring your receipt.

Well, I agree, those are crap as well, but I don't give a fig what IBM (or whatever they're called now) does. :)

The mini is very quiet and out-of-the-way. Something PC users are not accustomed to. And OSX Tiger running Spotlight makes Windows XP look like the virus-spyware cesspool that it really is. Congrats! :D

I miss the days of being a new Mac convert. I was so excited about leaving Windoze and Micro$haft behind, although I am increasingly concerened about the direction Apple is headed and have been very dissapointed by Apple this year on several occassions.

All in all, I still think the Mac is the better platform.

Yeah, we're trading up a lot of over older Quicksilvers and Digital Audio PowerMacs for Mac Mini's. They're a godsend for us. Nice, compact, and cheap Macs that are more capable than their older brothers for what we do.

We're only running FileMaker databases, TeX conversion, PDF creation, and office work. The Mini is more than enough when we install 1 GB of RAM.

I get to tinker around with the old PowerMac's too. :D

Congratulations, on you Mac purchase isn’t it great to be running OSX. It honestly it feels great to be called a traitor by the other family members. Do they dare refer to my mother in that manner after Christmas while she plays on her iMac?

    Enjoy,

    Michael

Congratulations. I tried to get my father to get one, but he got a PC laptop from work. Thinking of giving him one for his 60th birth day though

    Congratulations.

I still have a pc for gaming-related spare time, but ever since I bought my mac mini I am reluctant to switch it on - now that I am used to the quiet operation of the mac mini, the noice coming from my pc as it boots is soooo loud now that I don't want to hear it if I can avoid it...

    Have fun with it !
