My (former) boss recieved this email and was slightly amused (because he's non-white) and insists (jokingly) that he would have been interested in this deal otherwise.

It's a new take on the old Nigerian scam, except..

Personally, I'm going to take the guy up on his offer, give him back his $49.9 million and pocket the remaining $49.8 billion! SUCKER!!

Just for a laugh on a crappy Wednesday. Enjoy!

Yeah. But I'd really rather see how many people actually respond to these scams. Its obviously a scam to people who are more internet savvy, but I'd be willing to bet that there are more than a couple people out there who dont know how dangerous the internet can be, and will fall for this.

Do it. Do it. Do it. :)

(Personally, I'd like to see people who pull scams like this put to death, or at least have their hands removed so they can't scam anyone else.)

Wow, with 30% of $49,890,000, I could fulfill all the necessary purchase requirements to finally get that free iPod mini.

Here's a site that tries to catch these people out: http://www.419eater.com/

Sometimes they even scam the scammer out of cash or make them do funny things.

Like... balance random objects on their head for a picture.

Anyone who would fall for this scam has no conception of the difference between $49 Million and $49 Billion.

I bet the little racial switcheroo was done because the Nigerian scammers (bless their grifting souls) have been receiving racist replies.

    (please ignore grammatical errors)

Gold Stars for the one who recognizes the name I used (no Googling!).

Who was at the Mall, when Homer said "I'll go a little later, I'll go a little later" and when he got there, they said he just left.

    Meh, that's easy.

Definitely do it. While you're at it, see if he's interested in a

You should set it up so you turn the correspondence with her/him into a blog. That would be sweeeeeet! :)

Call George Boole! We don't know if he meant "white AND reputable" or "white OR reputable".

I'm sorry, I don't see how ANYONE could fall for this, even if they are not "internet savvy."

A random person claiming to work at a Swiss bank contacts you and says that he has an account worth $50 million that no one has a legal claim to, and that you and he can split the money if you help him.

Think about this... if YOU were the banker is Switzerland, is that how you'd handle it? E mail strangers hoping to get somone to take $15 million off your hands?

The scammers are deplorable, but anyone who falls for something like this is either extremely desperate or has ZERO common sense, regardless of what they know about the internet.

Just this once, you should make an exception. It's like, erm, making a ritual out of eating on Fat Tuesday before depriving yourself as an act of piety for Lent. It would be so Encyclopedia Brown. :D

But first, you need a good cover...getting a separate e-mail account is an excellent idea; I also recommend a fake mustache and glasses. :)
