I've been hearing little this and thats about the Apple campus in Cupertino and have become really interested in it. I remember seeing a Newsweek article about Google's campus, and it made it sound like THE best place to work. On-campus Thai cuisine, massage therapy, all kinds of sports, probably unicorns and oompa-loompas....

Has anyone here been to the Apple campus? If so, did you happen to take any pictures or could you give a brief description?

Share with the world the beauty of the REAL garden of eden!

All I can give you is what Google Maps gives me.

Are these "campuses" open to the public? I mean, can I go to Google or Apple and see the campus? I would understand that security has to be tight inside the buildings, but all I want to do is see the outside, and maybe go to the Apple Campus store. :)

IIRC, Les Kern posted some pics of his trip to Cupertino. I think he went for a IT/
EDU conference or some such. There were some really nice pics of the interior. I'll start digging...

EDIT: here you go. The link is in his sig.

    Thank Les. ;)

I keep trying to talk my wife into planning a vacation for early January to the Bay area. MWSF, Apple Campus & Store, Sony Metreon...Mecca! How pathetic is it that this is my ideal vacation? Nevermind, don't tell me, I already know.

I understand you need to know someone to arrange a tour, but can anyone get into the Apple Campus Store? I could drop a little cash for some Apple trink-age.

Pixar has a great building. I love the artist area. Everyone has their own little building (fancy sheds, basically) all lined up like a city street, with house numbers and mailboxes. Very cool.

    some decent pics

    *awesome*

That's the type of environment I would like to work in. Not the same type of work, but that space. It's amazing!

yeah, Pixar just seems like a very cool company to work for. I guess they brought out people to build a halfpipe or ramp or something like that for their employees to go snowboarding on so they could have a bit of winter out in Cali.

Keep your workers happy, you'll get better quality work out of them.

I bit of winter? We have mammoth mountain resort still open here in southern cali for snowboarding. Its open through july 4th. California gets more snow than people seem to think.

They've got one hell of an employee cafeteria. Everything from hamburgers to sushi...

Yeah, they do. I was in San Fransisco in April, and, by milking some old connections, I was able to get a tour of the campus (couldn't go in NDA facilities, obviously, but got to see the Cafeteria, the Exec. Briefing Room, etc). That's gotta be the best cafeteria food ever :)

I've been to just about all the Silicon Valley cafeterias, and I concur: Apple's is definitely one of the best. Great food plus a couple of espresso bars, outdoor dining on the spacious greensward (the weather in Cupertino is usually outstanding), and campus-wide (open) WiFi coverage. They also have a $20,000 Bösendorfer piano that employees and guests can play in the piano bar across from the theatre (where the shareholder meetings and other special events take place). Their campus is now one of the older ones in the Valley, but it's kept in great shape. Oh, and there's unicorns.

    Unicorns...? :D

Oh man, I need to snag me a tour of Apple Campus.

From the description of how awesome the cafeteria is, I'd paint the building with a toothbrush to get access to that thing...

OK, maybe not but.. MAN! It sounds like they'd have some AWESOME vegan food.

..Maybe steve'll let me sit at the cool kid table with him!
    :p

Doesn't matter if it looks like a house, it's still a cubicle.

I like how in the Apple Executive Briefing area you see all these huge tables with just a monitor on it, and then you see the conference room, and you see a guy sitting at a table that looks to be used by 3rd graders.

Well yes, they do have a good variety of vegan food (since Steve is, I guess), and Steve sits right there with everyone else when he eats. I'm sure he doesn't just hang out and rap with random employees, but he doesn't lock himself in his guilded office with his armed bodyguards either, like oh...Larry Ellison, for example.

Very cool! It would be awesome to get a tour of that place!

I would love to visit Cupertino sometime, it would be nice to pop in and take my own pictures, stop by the store and pick up some swag, and see all I can see.

Do they even give tours? I was always escorted, and there was security everywhere. To go from the conference suites to the cafeteria it was a 100 yard walk through I think 4 keyed doors.
Anyway, you're all welcome for the pics. I was there for an all-expense paid trip not because I've bought several million bucks worth of stuff from them... they have conferences like this all the time for schools to intro their solutions. Even PC-based schools. The programs are first class (as is your treatment... in spades), and this one was the first of a series specifically directed to Tech Directors. Bet I saw Tiger working before you did! I had to sign a non-dosclosure form before I even sat down.
The campus IS pretty cool, but I didn't think I'd call it spectacular. The cafeteria was pretty darned good. Name a food, you'd probalby see it. Folks were FRIENDLY there.

I don't keep track of all of the development in the Valley (just Apple), but it was under construction in October 1991. I don't know the integrity of the site that I got it from, but here is a photo that was on the site:

I think it said that the building that was still standing was the old IBM chip plant or something along those lines. Do a little research if you are interested.
