The signal shows how close it is to the router. It doesn't tell you if it is connected to the internet.

Have you followed the instructions on setting it up? What kind of router is it?

Your ISP or local AppleCentre may be able to help you in setting it up; maybe give them a call.

Is there another machine you could test on this network? Can you connect to the 'net directly with the MacBook, bypassing the router (ethernet cable)? If so, make sure the settings in the ethernet pane of your MacBook resemble those in the Internet section of the Belkin setup page.

    Ive done it now thanks.

I do have one more query though if you dont mind. When i put the PC on standby i cant see to get the internet on the laptop, the 'wired computers' number turns off when the PC is on standby so obviously it is something to do with this.

My question is,is there a way of rectifying this?

Is your laptop connecting to the router or to the PC? It sounds like it's the latter, in which case connect your laptop to the router in order to get a constant internet stream. :)
