I can't figure out why, but my B/W G3 is acting up. When i tried to boot it up it gave me the grey startup screen with the spinning circle. But, after a while the Apple disappered, and then it turned into a "no" symbol. It looks like the circle with a cross thru it.

Does anyone know what this means, or why it is happening? I can't figure it out.

    Thanx, Ryan

Can you boot it off the install disks? :)

Also, which OS is it running? Maybe read this. :)

i've tried, but i think my DVD-ROM has gone bad. I think tomorrow i am goint to have to take one of my optical drives out of my MDD to try and test it again. I will post again tomorrow, and let you know what happens.

thanks for the response. i read that link you gave me, and i think i will go a head and reinstall tomorrow morning. I still am puzzled by why it happened as i am running a clean install of 10.4 on it.

    thanks again, ryan

Well, i offically don't know what the problem is. I tried to install 10.4, 10.3, 10.2, and even OS 9. I don't think it is my RAM, because it worked fine in my older G4 450. It also has the folder with the question mark/sad mac icon on the screen after i install OS 9, and then restart.

It will install OS's fine, but when i go to restart it will go to the grey apple screen and just sit there with the spin wheel, or not boot at all.

It seems really weird how i can install fine, and then after that it goes all hay-wire. Any ideas as to what i should try next?

I think i remember talking to an Apple tech once, and they told me about a way to get the motherboard back to factory settings. I think i have to take out the battery and unplug the computer, hold down the CUDA button [for like 15 secs], and leave the board sit for an hour. Then, plug every thing back in, and try to restart. I am wondering if this will work.
