I am considering upgrading my video card in the Power Mac listed in my signature. But, I'm becoming skeptical that it may not be worth it for my needs. There's no tight budget that I'm attempting to maintain, but I would like to save some cash if the upgrade isn't necessary.

This is the card I was considering, and from reading the performance figures it appears it would be a fantastic value. My typical desktop use is for video playback or encoding (haven't once messed around with video editing, yet - maybe in a few years), Photoshopping, and the regular (iTunes, surfing, Mail, iCal, blah blah blah). I am not a gamer, at all or ever.

Is this card a superfluous upgrade or would I see a noticeable boost in performance? My current video playback and encoding seems to be great, but I was curious as to whether I should continue considering this card. Thanks.

You didn't mention what card you currently use. However, for what you mentioned (working with video's, encoding, and photoshop), a new video card will have completely no impact whatsoever. A new processor yes, a new video card no. Only if you plan on gaming, or run something that needs 3d acceleration such as aperture or motion would an upgrade be worthwhile. And even then, you'd have to get a better card than that.

I'm only really here at night.
Agreed, no 3D work = waste of money :p

Your cash would be better spent on maxing da ram, a big, fast HDD, or even a cpu upgrade, perhaps a DP 1.8.........

I agree as well, skip the video card purchase. I learned that first hand upgrading a video card on my G4. Practically no difference at all.
